Welcome to Precious Dorset

Precious Dorset

Welcome to Precious Dorset Precious Dorset is a new website that will serve as a guide and inspiration to greener living in Dorset. Making the most of what Dorset has to offer is a very effective way of reducing carbon emissions and to be kinder to both our global and local environments.

Dorset is such a beautiful part of the world and we want to keep it that way for our precious children and grandchildren. The main aim of the website is to make it easier to find local food and products made in Dorset. It is also a place where local businesses can promote themselves through free listings, low cost advertising space and article features.

Today's consumers are getting increasingly concerned about the food they eat and want to know how it was grown or reared and how far it has travelled before landing on our plates. We are also moving away from the throwaway society of the 80s and 90s and we are now seeking products made of recycled materials or are keen to buy 2nd hand items. Organisers of 2nd hand sales events in Dorset, such as Car Boot Sales, Table Top Sales, Nearly New Sales, Antiques etc, can therefore promote their events for free on the website.

Other listings now available on Precious Dorset include: Dorset Farm Shops, Dorset Farmer's Markets, Products Made in Dorset and Restaurants serving local food. The website will soon launch an Organic guide to Dorset and list speciality 2nd hand shops, e.g. baby equipment, books and wedding dresses.

Below you will find examples of some of the information that you'll find on Precious Dorset.

Farm Shops - There are several guides to Farm Shops available on the Internet but the information on PD is always entered by the Farm Shop people themselves and offers a comprehensive guide to their product range. You can also find out if they sell organic produce, stock gluten or dairy free products, offer pick your own produce and if they have an onsite coffee shop.

Eating Out Guide - A Dorset guide to restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy local food. We also ask listed restaurants if they cater for special diet requirements; if they have a gluten free, dairy free and/or vegetarian friendly menu, and if they can offer a nutritious meal for children.

Made in Dorset - Find products and produce made in the county of Dorset. Great for sourcing local alternatives, to find a special gift or for retailers looking to stock products made in Dorset.

For obvious reasons you will never find a paper version of this website, and because it is a website we can make sure that the content stays fresh and up to date with new listings and information added to the site on a daily basis.
